Finding Specific Job Titles Within A General Occupation

One of the frustrations of using a career research database like Career Cruising is that it only lists generic roles like engineer, planner, and dietitian. That's great if your goal is to have a general sense of what those occupations would look like, but if your goal is to “drill down” into more specific job titles within those occupations, Career Cruising will be of little help.

So how do you drill deeper? I'd suggest searching the Occupational Information Network (O-Net) and the National Occupation Classification List (or NOC) for help. Both O-Net and NOC list "example titles" under each generic occupation within its database. And once you've identified the titles that peak your interest, all you have to do is locate online job descriptions for each title. A simple Google search will do the trick!
